manuel arturo abreu

manuel arturo abreu (1991, Santo Domingo) is a poet and artist from the Bronx. They received their BA in linguistics from Reed College in 2014. They use text, ephemeral sculpture, and photography in a process of magical thinking with attention to ritual aspects of aesthetics. Recent projects and discourse presented at MoMA and MoMA PS1 (New York), AA|LA (Los Angeles), SFMoMA Open Space (online), Rhizome and the New Museum (online), INCA (Seattle, WA), and locally in Portland at Open Signal Portland Community Media Center, Chicken Coop Contemporary, the Art Gym, Portland Institute for Contemporary Art, the Pacific Northwest College of Art, and more. They wrote List of Consonants (Bottlecap Press, 2015), transtrender (Quimérica Books, 2016), and Incalculable Loss (Institute for New Connotative Action Press, 2018). They also co-facilitate home school, a free pop-up art school in Portland.
